Corrections

When we get something wrong, we fix it fast and tell you what changed. We never quietly edit a mistake away.

Report an error

  1. Fill out the request form below with a link to the story.

  2. Tell us what’s wrong and include any source that shows the correct information.

  3. We reply by email within 5 business days, and publish a correction if the story was wrong.

What a correction looks like

Added to the end of the story Correction, Oct. 14, 2026: An earlier version of this story misstated the storm’s wind speed. It was 85 mph, not 95 mph.

How we label changes

Correction

A factual error was fixed: a name, number, date or claim. A note explains what was wrong.

Clarification

The facts were right but the wording could mislead. A note explains what changed.

Update

New information in a developing story. The update time is shown under the byline.

Spelling and grammar fixes that don’t change meaning are made without a note.

Removing or changing a story

We don’t remove accurate stories because they’re unflattering. We will consider removing or anonymizing a story when:

  • it is materially inaccurate and a correction can’t fix it;
  • it identifies someone in a way that creates a real safety risk;
  • it concerns a minor, or a private person in a minor matter, and the harm outweighs its news value; or
  • a court orders it.

Request a review
